As the newest addition to Project Home's Outreach Coordination Center, the One Day at a Time family attended the Mayor's Press Conference announcing his plans for Homeless Outreach for summer 2016. The conversation was led by Mayor Kenney, Liz Hersh of the Office of Supportive Housing, and Dr. Arthur Evans, of the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services. Together, they rolled out the City's plan for Homeless Outreach. The initiative will focus on Center City's "Hot Spots" and linking those who are; living on the streets, aggressively panhandling, suffering from mental health or substance abuse issues to the social services and resources that they require. The press conference ended with a powerful testimony from one formerly homeless individual, Sam Vasquez, who laid out his long journey through 11 years of living on the street, to finding employment as a Peer Outreach Homeless support and finally obtaining his own apartment and gaining independence.
Please, if you see a homeless individual that is experiencing a mental health or substance abuse issue, call the Homeless Outreach hotline at 215-232-1984.
Join ODAAT for our next prayer group service, God's Real House of Prayer For Suffering People, this Sunday, May 15th at 6 PM at the AFCOM center, 2432 W. Lehigh Avenue.
